MAX MCGEE'S PROFILE
I CAN'T NOT MAKE GAMES.
I have enough lockerspace to hold an episode of Friends.
"We'll make a toast to absent friends and better days,
To remembering and being remembered as brave
And not as a bunch of whining jerks!
Don't lose your nerve.
Do not go straight
You must testify
(or I'm going to come to your house and punch you in the mouth)
cause CLOWNS MUST STAND."
- TW/IFS, "All The World Is A Stage Dive"

Minimizing Mapping: An Abstract Exercise In Game Design
Yeah, that's the visual novel style basically and how it works more or less in EE.
Only EE cuts out the "city map" and just lets you pick which district you want to visit from a menu. It is an RPG Maker RPG which contains 0 maps. Very clever.

Here is the thing...professional covers a very wide range of artists and a wide range of prices. You can find extremely gifted artists that will work very cheap, and they may well even be better than more expensive artists who can charge more because they are more well known.

Dragons' Descendants
I have Q about this "old" game. The game status says completed. The last blog post seems to indicate "very not completed". Since I wasn't around to follow the development of this last year, which is actually true?
Edit: Wait, Craze and LouisCyphre made game with no scripts??? how, how can this be? *MIND IS BLOWN*

Square-Enix Decides To Give All Of Its Fans The Middle Finger By Re-Releasing The PC Port Of FF7 For The PS4
to conclude
1. be careful what you wish for
2. be happy with what you have
3. brand new stories are better than retreads and cash-ins
You know this is generally how I feel but for all of the remakes and reboots that Hollywood and the AAA games industry have shoveled out that I DID NOT REMOTELY FUCKING WANT OR NEED it really really adds insult to injury that they're not going to remake the one fucking thing I'd like to see a fucking remake of.

collective shitting upon squareenix
I agree that I haven't been impressed with anything squenix has done as a developer in the last ten to fifteen years but I think they've acted as publisher for some games I've really enjoyed in that time.
Minimizing Mapping: An Abstract Exercise In Game Design
Disclaimer: While I describe this as an 'abstract exercise' I am obviously confining my thinking within the constraints of the locus of the RPGMaker program family.
So I'm looking to generate some ideas here with an abstract intellectual exercise in game design.
1) Pretend that like me you hate mapping and want to do as little of it as possible. Also, you want to make a decent sized game.
2) Also pretend that for whatever reason you don't want to make a game that's a visual-novel hybrid and doesn't have any maps at all, a la Essence Enforcer by LouisCyphre. (As a random shout out, I'd go ahead and recommend that game to any of you who haven't played it.) Obviously "solutions" like making a game with no graphics at all are also right out.
I'm not gonna put any more hypothetical constraints in play because two is probably enough to get people brainstorming without restricting too much.
So how do you design a decent-sized game to use the smallest amount of maps possible without being boring to play or boring to develop? How do you milk the most gameplay and/or story possible out of the smallest number of maps possible? Tell me as much about these hypothetical game designs as you can think of.

okay suckahs give me yo games
I played your space dolphin thing, flapbat.
I did a 3 step setup process in order to play it. This might be the most damning thing I have ever admitted. But I was curious.
In the 47 seconds that I had to do I don't know what because I don't know what the objective was I got hit by 10 blimps.
Ha ha ha ha. Very amusing.
but seriously what the fuck is wrong with you?

My first son was born on Oct 2nd, 2009. Sorry.
Well don't feel too bad, all of my complete games are older than your kids.
Out Of Control Cops - A Serious Problem In America
@Dyhalto: Your frothing spume of crazy is negatively impacting my quality of life so I'm gonna go ahead and close off that valve. Welcome to my ignore list dawg.
@harmonic:
Trayvon would have looked like Obama's son. There's nothing irresponsible about saying that. This country is being victimized by a racist and just generally out of control police force. People should be angry and people should be aggressively lobbying for change. Neither of those things directly equate to rioting in the streets. But then again I would not even say I am necessarily opposed to a violent uprising against the system when the system is this broken and corrupt. I mean honestly, fuck the establishment at this point. I can understand people being mad as hell, and not going to take it anymore.
Anyway, almost all media coverage I've seen (mostly around the internet) has indicated that the majority of protests have been peaceful except where the riot cops have escalated things to violence. Certainly the NYC protests have been peaceful. And the property destruction and fires in Ferguson were most likely opportunistic looters using the riots as cover for their crimes, not ordinary people lashing out for ideological reasons.

author=Clyveauthor=Max McGeeDoes anyone know if Max is working on a TTRPG? I don't think it's been mentioned SEVERAL TIMES in this thread about someone else's game on Kickstarter yet...
Don't just mean them, I mean everyone who has ever failed to deliver on a KS. Mainly, it's the TTRPG ones I care about...
Yeah, I am, and we had a really successful Kickstarter for it, thanks for asking.
: )
Getting about an hour's worth of (good) music runs around 6k alone, a single character (many different actions, poses, etc) can cost over $600 depending on the type of game, sound effects also add up quickly.
Yeah maybe it CAN cost that much but everyone around here should definitely know by now that it can cost a hell of a lot less than that too. There's so many talented artists and composers offering their work around here either for free or for pennies (Maybe they aren't all reliable, sure. But this is the internet, and trust me when I say no amount of money will make anyone be 100% reliable.) that I really don't think making a high quality game with 100% original assets that are also high quality needs to cost that much. I am pretty much positive that you could do it for 10% of what YDS is asking.
